WHO: Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) members: Merlyn Hubin of Westbrook; Marvin Jensen of Kensington; Eunice Biel of Harmony; Jeanne Wertish of Renville; Jessica & Mike Ratka of Foley; Alan & Karen Perish of Browerville; Gene Paul, National Farm Organization Policy Analyst from Delavan; Farmers Union Foundation scholarship Ag Policy Education winners, Daniel Hoffman, agricultural education instructor at Riverland Community College from Rochester, and students Nancy Gerber & Mark Gerber of Adams; National Youth Advisory Council Member Chandler Winkels Muff of New Richland; and Tom Rothman, MN Farm Network Farm Director. The following MFU staff will also be in attendance: Doug Peterson, MFU President; Gary Wertish, MFU Vice President; Thom Petersen, MFU Government Relations Director; Katie Fitzsimmons, MFU Director of Communications; and Dori Klein, MFU Field Representative from Zumbro Falls.
WHAT: Flying to Washington, D.C. to meet with Minnesota Senators, Representatives and/or their staff to discuss the next farm bill, energy and the energy title of the next farm bill, fair trade with Cuba, fiscally responsible taxation, the dairy crisis, and ideas for ways to ensure a competitive marketplace. The attendees will also be attending a briefing with officials from the United States Department of Agriculture, as well as the White House and Senate and House of Representatives Agriculture Committees.
